Ceci est le plus ancien domaine familial australien qui existe à ce jour puisqu'il a été fondé en 1849 par Samuel Smith. Celui-ci nomma son entreprise Yalumba, un nom qui signifie dans la langue aborigène de la région, tout le terrain des environs.
